Chinese New Year (February 3, 2011) is not a holiday - Malacanang Palace

The Malacanang Palace - through President Noynoy Aquino confirmed that February 3, 2011 or the celebration of the Chinese New Year will be a regular working day in public and private sectors. Just last month, the Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that they will be studying the possibilities of declaring the date as holiday.

According to reports, the President sent his message through text on Wednesday saying that the proposal for Chinese New Year holiday declaration was late. He said that in as much as they want to approve the proposal, but the executive order for holidays was already issued (Proclamation No. 84). He also added that employees in a no work no pay scheme will be greatly affected if this will be approved. On the other hand, President Aquino hoped to include the date next year in the list of official holidays.
