Eduardo Oban as AFP Chief of Staff - Declared by President Aquino in PMA Graduation Rites

The President of the Philippines, Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino officially declared the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) newest Chief of Staff in PMA graduation ceremonies held today in Baguio City. Eduardo Oban, a member of the PMA Class 1979 and the former Vice Commander of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) will be the replacement of the Ricardo David, the current AFP Chief who will be retiring tomorrow at the age of 56. Even before, he was one of the early favorites to handle the position.

Eduardo Oban is an alumni of University of Sto. Tomas and acquired his Masters Degree in Business Economics at University of Asia and the Pacific.

According to reports, Oban was selected over several deserving senior Military officers through series of personal interviews.

As quoted from his speech in the Philippine Military graduation, he said:

Wala akong duda sa kakayahan niyang ipagpatuloy ang mga repormang sinimulan ni Gen. Ricardo David at lalo pang paigtingin ang mga programang pangkapayapaan ng sandatahang lakas

I have no doubt on his abilities to continue the reforms started by General Ricardo David, most especially to strengthen more the peace and order in the Armed Forces.

Aquino also encouraged the 2011 PMA graduates to uphold their dignity. He said that being a PMAer is not only about grades and medals, in reality - it is about bravery, concern and honesty.
