Earlier tonight, the Department of Education suspended the pre-school, elementary and high school classes tomorrow (June 24, 2011) in all areas of Metro Manila due to the floods and heavy rains brought about by the current typhooon "Falcon".
Meanwhile, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said that the suspension or cancellation of classes in tertiary or college levels are dependent on the University and college officials.
Reports said that CHED Executive Director Jovito Vitriolio said,
"Pinauubaya namin sa heads ng higher educational institution ang decision para suspindihin ang klase. Kung tingin nila kailangang kailangan dahil impassable ang roads, nasa kanila yan"
CHED also said that when the typhoon signal reaches number 3 in an area, classes in all levels will be automatically suspended or cancelled.
2nd Update: Among the colleges and universities in Metro Manila which suspend their classes are the following:
- Arellano University
- La Consolacion College – Pasig
- Centro Escolar University – Makati
- Trinity University of Asia
- STI College – Caloocan
DepEd also canceled classes from different public and private pre-school, elementary and high school in different region and provinces in the Philippines. According to reports, these includes:
- Angono
- Cainta
- Sta. Cruz, Laguna
- Calamba City
- Bulacan
- Antipolo City
- Malolos City
- Zambales
- Bataan
- Pangasinan
- Dasmarinas
- Rosario, Cavite
- Bacoor, Cavite
- Cavite City
