Philippine Provinces to be affected by Tsunami after Japan 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) warned the Philippine public, most especially those near the shores to evacuate earlier because of the possible waves brought about by the 8.9 earthquake happened in Japan earlier today. The agency also released the names of the provinces to be possibly affected by tsunami.

As reported, a 1 meter high is expected to hit the shores of 19 provinces facing the Pacific ocean at about 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Among the provinces that will be affected by tsunami are the following:

  • Batanes Islands
  • Cagayan
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Isabela
  • Quezon
  • Aurora
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Albay
  • Catanduanes
  • Sorsogon
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Northern Leyte
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao del Sur

Different local offices were alerted for the damages it will bring. The Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Fire Protection and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) are working hand in hand to ensure that proper evacuations will be mobilized to all affected residents of the provinces mentioned.
