Two Filipinos Made It to American Idol Top 24


The whole Filipino nation will again set their eyes in the 10th season of the popular US reality show American Idol because of the two Filipino hopefuls, Clint Jun Gamboa and Thia Megia, who made it to the top 24.

Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) reported on February 24 that Clint Jun Gamboa made it to the top 24. Meanwhile, in the February 25 episode, the 15-year old Thia Megia also made it on the same list. Thia was the last female who was able to join the Top 24.

Next week, the top 12 female and male contestants will have a series of competition in which the voting audience will select the 6 male and female finalists who will compose the Top 12.

Aside from Clint, other male contestants are Brett Lowenstern, Jovany Barreto, Jacob Lusk, Paul McDonald, Robbie Rosen, Stefano Langone, Jordan Dorsey, Tim Halprin, James Durbin, Casey Abrams, and Scotty McCreery. Other female contestants are Naima Adedap, Julie Zorilla, Karen Rodriguez, Lauren Turner, Kendra Chantelle, Ashton Jones, Rachel Zevita, Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alaina Suddeth, Pia Toscano, and Ta-Tynisa Wilson.

The most recent Filipina who made it at the Top 12 of the American Idol was Ramiele Malubay of Season 7 wherein David Cook was declared as winner. Jasmine Trias, also a Filipina, ranked 3rd in Season 3 where Fantasia Barrino was declared as the winner. Camille Velasco has been part also of Season 3 and she reached Top 9.

American Idol is hosted by Ryan Seacrest while Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will be the judges for this season.
