February 25, 2011 is holiday - EDSA Revolution Anniversary

In accordance with the 84th Proclamation of the Malacanang Palace, February 25, 2011 was declared as a holiday for all schools. This is in consonance with the celebration of the 1986 EDSA Revolution Anniversary. The proclamation signed by President Benigno Aquino specifically stated that it was included in the list of holidays to remember the restoration of social, economic and political reforms in the country.

The EDSA holiday was only for public and private schools. As reported, employees from different private and local establishments are exempted on this special holiday.

The holiday will be celebrated to commemorate the 1986 people power revolution which marked the Philippine freedom from authoritative leadership of Ferdinand Marcos. The day when the Efifanio delos Santos Avenue was filled with approximately two million civilians from different sectors and united as one to regain the democracy that Filipinos are enjoying today.

  1. EDSA Revolution was a fake and accidental revolution. The original heroes were the balut vendors, cigarette vendors, iced-water vendors, prostitutes, unemployed, unemployables, purse snatchers, pocket slashers, tsismosos and tsismosas were the first responders of this so-called Miracle at EDSA, according to priests, People Power, to the hip and young, EDSA Revolution, to the politicos and romanticists, just plain EDSA to the oligarchs were there to WITNESS FIRST-HAND WHO'D BE THE VICTOR BETWEEN THE SQUABBLES OF CORRUPT CAMPS: Marcos Vs. Ramos-Enrile-Honasan

  2. Why it came down to become a "revolution" is beyond my comprehension. Why the so-called self-proclaimed "professional" Philippine journalists called it as such is condescending at best. This accidental revolution was an aftermath and by-product of the squabbles of the corrupts. The church, oligarchs, politicos, actors and actresses and comedians hijack this accidental revolution from the poor vendors, tsismosos and tsismosas. They just came out when it was safe to come out. The first-responders were never acknowledge in the celebration. They made Cory Aquino the hero. She was far far far away from the "revolt".

  11. The U.S.-orchestrated coup which overthrew the government of Philippines' President Ferdinand Marcos in 1986 was a classic case study of what John Perkins describes in his recent book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, as the post-World War II preferred method of imposing colonial control under another name. In the Philippines case, George Shultz performed the roles of both the economic hit man, destroying and taking full control of the Philippine economy, and the coup-master, deposing the Philippine President in favor of an IMF puppet—while calling the operation "people power."
